Samuel Knopp and Celie Rain Montgomery Tragedy: Victims of UCCS Shooting, Nicholas Jordan Competency Hearing Continues.

Samuel Knopp and Celie Rain Montgomery Tragedy: Victims of UCCS Shooting, Nicholas Jordan Competency Hearing Continues.

Samuel Knopp, 24, and Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, were found deceased in a UCCS dormitory on February 16, 2024. Nicholas Jordan, the accused, was apprehended for the shooting of the two victims. However, his defense argued his inability to stand trial, citing mental incompetence.

Jordan’s competency evaluation was conducted by a psychologist with the State Mental Health Hospital. The results revealed that Jordan was mentally incompetent to stand trial. The prosecution requested a second competency evaluation, which was granted by Judge David Shakes.

The second evaluation was conducted by a doctor of the prosecution’s choice. The results of the second evaluation differed from the first, deeming Jordan competent to stand trial. The defense argued that the second evaluation should not be considered, citing state statute. However, Judge Shakes ruled that the second evaluation was valid.

Jordan is accused of killing his roommate, Samuel Knopp, and Celie Montgomery, who was not a student, in a UCCS dorm room. The two victims were found dead with at least one gunshot wound each. Jordan allegedly threatened to kill Knopp over taking out the trash during a previous argument.

Jordan’s arrest was made after police found him in a vehicle with a handgun and a loaded AK-47. He is facing two counts of first-degree murder and is being held at the El Paso County Jail on a $5 million bond.

The case has been delayed due to the competency evaluations. The court is still determining the next steps in the case. Jordan’s next court date is scheduled for August 16.

The UCCS community is still reeling from the tragedy. Students and faculty have come together to support the victims’ families and friends. The university has also offered counseling services to those affected by the tragedy.

The case has raised questions about mental health and competency to stand trial. The legal system’s ability to handle cases involving mental health issues has been called into question.

In the end, the tragedy has left two families without their loved ones. Samuel Knopp and Celie Rain Montgomery will be remembered by their friends and family. The case will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
