Joe Bonsall Death: Joe Bonsall, 76, Renowned Country Musician and Member of The Oak Ridge Boys, Passes Away Due to Complications from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

Joe Bonsall, a beloved member of the iconic country music group The Oak Ridge Boys, has tragically passed away at the age of 76. Bonsall, who resided in Hendersonville, Tennessee, succumbed to complications from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) on July 9, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of music, love, and faith.

Joe Bonsall was a talented individual who was not only an exceptional musician but also an author, with 11 books to his credit. His latest memoir, “I See Myself,” was set to be released in November. Apart from his passion for singing, reading, and writing, Bonsall was an avid banjo player, farmer, and Philadelphia Phillies fan. However, his faith in Jesus and his family always remained his top priority.

Bonsall’s journey with The Oak Ridge Boys began in 1973, and he remained a dedicated member for over 50 years. He was also a proud member of the Grand Ole Opry and was honored with inductions into the Philadelphia Music Hall of Fame, the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Joe Bonsall is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann, daughters Jennifer and Sabrina, granddaughter Breanne, grandson Luke, two great-grandsons, Chance and Grey, and a sister named Nancy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph S. Bonsall Sr. and Lillie Bonsall.

In January 2024, Bonsall announced his retirement from touring due to his neuromuscular disorder. Despite his health struggles, he remained committed to his craft and his faith, inspiring countless fans and fellow musicians.

The Oak Ridge Boys and the country music community are mourning the loss of a legendary musician and a devoted family man. Joe Bonsall’s legacy will live on through his music, books, and the countless lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The ALS Association or the Vanderbilt Medical Center ALS and Neuroscience Research Center, as per Bonsall’s wishes. There will be no funeral, but his memory will be celebrated through the music and love he shared with the world.
