George A. Brandenstein, affectionately known as “Georgie,” a beloved son, husband, brother, uncle, and friend, has tragically passed away on July 7, 2024, at the age of 29, due to complications from a stroke. The community mourns the loss of this vibrant young man, whose life was characterized by his athleticism, love for life, and curiosity.
George, born on May 16, 1995, in Youngstown, Ohio, was a cherished member of his family and community. He attended St. Nicholas Elementary School and graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 2013, where he played a pivotal role on the championship-winning basketball team. He pursued his passion for biology at Youngstown State University, earning a bachelor’s degree, and later thrived in a technical role at Fusion, Inc.
George was a man of many interests and passions. He enjoyed activities like basketball and kickball, and he also found joy in reading, gaming with friends, and experimenting with new culinary creations, particularly indulging in crème brulee and Handel’s chocolate ice cream. Known for his confident advice and love for the Pittsburgh Steelers, George’s zest for life extended to enjoying walks with Martha, feeding birds, stargazing, and exploring new interests together.
George’s curious mind led him to enjoy board games, roller coasters at Cedar Point, and quality time with his nieces and nephews. He was a beloved husband to Martha Guisfredi, and his love for her was evident in everything he did. He was a devoted son to George W. and Susan Brandenstein, and a cherished brother to Tiffany Ivery, Katelyn Hysell, Scott, and identical twin Christopher.
George is survived by his wife Martha, parents George W. and Susan, grandmother Theresa Koken, siblings Tiffany Ivery (Christopher), Katelyn Hysell (Staton), Scott, and identical twin Christopher. He also leaves behind nieces Mahalia, Louisa, Naomi, nephew Oliver, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his beloved pet Abby.
Calling hours will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, 2726 Center Rd., Poland, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 12, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 764 5th St., Struthers, Ohio.
