As a result, a Nissan Rogue traveling northbound collided with the Cruze, causing both vehicles to come to a stop in the center median.

The victims were identified as 77-year-old Carol Mart and 65-year-old Charles Layton, both residents of Cedar Rapids and beloved pastors at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. The driver of the Nissan Rogue, who was the only occupant, was unharmed.

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church confirmed that the two individuals were on their way to lunch following a worship service when the tragic incident occurred.
