Brian Wright Jr. Death: Brian Wright Jr., 23, Tragically Killed in Fatal Shooting on West Side of Topeka, Dasanee Curry Released from Jail Awaiting Charges

Brian Wright Jr., a 23-year-old Topeka resident, has tragically lost his life in a fatal shooting that occurred on the west side of the city. The incident took place around 2:15 a.m. on June 21 in the vicinity of the 3100 block of S.W. Westover Road, leaving his family, friends, and community in shock and grief.

Dasanee Curry, 18, was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Jail on charges including first-degree murder, aggravated endangering a child, criminal discharge of a firearm, and criminal damage to property. However, Curry was released from the Shawnee County Jail on July 2 without posting bail, as no formal charges had been filed.

The shooting incident also left another woman with life-threatening injuries. Law enforcement officials stated that the incident was linked to gang-related activities. The police requested the public’s assistance in locating Nassir Gill, 19, from Topeka, who was identified as a person of interest in the case.

Brian Wright Jr. was the seventh homicide victim in the city of Topeka in 2024. His memory will be deeply missed, and his love for life will never be forgotten.
