Yasar Jamal Oliver Burnett Jr., a 25-year-old man, and Ivionte Campbell, a 19-year-old man, are the victims of two separate homicides in Indianapolis, with a 26-year-old suspect in custody in connection with both crimes.
On May 6, at approximately 3:30 p.m., police officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to a call about a vehicle that veered off the road and into a yard near West Stop 11 and Railroad roads. Upon arrival, officers discovered Burnett Jr., who had been shot. Medical personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified Burnett Jr. and ruled his death as a homicide. Law enforcement officials stated that they are continuing their investigation and have identified the 26-year-old suspect in this particular incident. At the time of his apprehension, the man was already in custody on preliminary charges of murder and aggravated assault in a separate case.
The separate case involved the murder of Campbell and the aggravated assault of two other individuals. The shooting took place in the 3400 block of Timbersedge Drive, near Guion and Lafayette roads, at around 10 a.m. on April 25. Upon arrival, officers found three men who had sustained gunshot wounds. IMPD confirmed that one man, later identified as Campbell, had passed away at the scene, while the other two were transported to hospitals – one in critical condition and the others in stable condition.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office later identified the deceased man as Campbell. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the cases and determine the final charges.
