Chief Deputy Daniel Hughes explained to the media that the shooting occurred following disturbances during a Juneteenth concert, prompting organizers to end the event prematurely due to fights among unattended youth.
As the crowd dispersed, the violence continued, culminating in the shooting by Onterio Girley, 17, who was later apprehended by law enforcement.
The criminal complaint details the use of a firearm equipped with a device that converts it into a fully-automatic weapon. Girley attempted to flee but was stopped by a detective in an unmarked vehicle, resulting in his arrest.
Drone footage supports the allegations against Girley, who faces multiple charges including first-degree recklessly endangering safety and possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent. Girley is scheduled to appear in court on June 25.
