Deputies and multiple EMS agencies responded to the scene shortly after 2 p.m. on Monday, following a report of a two-vehicle crash. Preliminary investigation details suggest that Joshua Charett, 31, of Rangely was traveling east on Canton Road in a green 2021 Jeep Wrangler when a red 2014 four-door Mercedes, driven by Jared Sampson, 23, of Norway, veered across the centerline and collided with Charett’s vehicle in the eastbound lane.

Charett and a minor in his vehicle were transported to Central Maine Medical Center after the accident, while Sampson and two children in car seats in the back of the Mercedes were also taken to CMMC with serious injuries. Unfortunately, Harley Lausier, the front passenger in Sampson’s vehicle, and the one-and-a-half-year-old girl in a car seat on the rear passenger side, both passed away at the scene.
