Deputies attempted to stop the driver, later identified as Ewing, who was acting suspiciously. However, Ewing took off, leading deputies and police officers on a short chase that ended at the Astro gas station on West 6th Street. During the pursuit, Ewing attempted to ram law enforcement vehicles, prompting officers and deputies to fire at the driver.
According to police, Ewing ignored commands from law enforcement and continued to direct the truck at officers, posing a significant threat to their safety. The driver was hit by gunfire and received medical aid at the scene before being transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
