Donald Ray Weaver, Virginia Scoffield Obituary – The Indiana State Police are currently investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in rural Harrison County, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and the injury of another.
On Friday, Harrison County officers and state troopers responded to a residence located on Mosquito Creek Road near Laconia.
Upon arrival, the police discovered Marion Young, a 56-year-old individual who had been shot in the arm. Despite his injury, Young managed to flee to a nearby home to report the incident.
He was subsequently transported to a hospital in Louisville for medical treatment. Fortunately, Young’s injuries are not life-threatening.
The police then proceeded to the residence where the shooting took place in order to make contact with the other two individuals present. However, their attempts to establish communication were unsuccessful.
During a thorough search of the premises, the police discovered an elderly man and woman lying outside the back door of the home. These individuals were later identified as Donald Ray Weaver, 84 years old, and Virginia Scoffield, 82 years old, who is Young’s mother.
Based on their ongoing investigation, the police believe that Weaver and Young had engaged in some form of argument earlier that evening. Young had exited the home, and when Weaver followed, he pulled out a firearm and shot Young in the arm.
According to the police, after Young sought help from a neighbor to contact the authorities, additional gunshots were heard originating from the residence.
It is believed that Weaver shot and killed Scoffield, who had also stepped outside during the initial shooting. Subsequently, Weaver is believed to have turned the gun on himself.
Autopsies will be conducted on both victims as part of the investigation.
