Marcellus Jackson Obituary – A 21-year-old male was fatally shot in Northeast D.C. during the early hours of Thursday, following a visit to his family and friends in the Deanwood neighborhood, according to his mother.
The victim, Marcellus Jackson, was the youngest son of Denise Wilson. In an interview with News4, Wilson expressed her disbelief and described the news as surreal. She stated, “I’m waking up and thinking, ‘They didn’t say that. It feels like a dream in your mind.’” Law enforcement officers promptly responded to the incident, which occurred in the 4400 block of Hunt Place NE, shortly after 3 a.m. Tragically, Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Expressing her anguish, Wilson questioned why someone would take the life of her beloved child. She emphasized the importance of recognizing that these victims are not just statistics but cherished individuals who are part of someone’s family. “People fail to consider that these are somebody’s children, somebody’s siblings, somebody’s cousins,” she lamented. Wilson revealed that she and her family had relocated from the neighborhood where her son was fatally shot due to previous incidents of their house being targeted. She disclosed that their residence had been shot at multiple times.
Reflecting on her son’s aspirations, Wilson shared that Jackson had recently graduated from high school in 2021 and was actively seeking a more stable employment opportunity.
Furthermore, Wilson mentioned that her son had been among the numerous individuals injured in a previous incident at the Unifest street festival in Anacostia back in 2007, when a driver recklessly drove into a crowd of people.
In an appeal to Mayor Muriel Bowser, Wilson urged her to listen attentively to the concerns voiced by parents in the D.C. community regarding crime. “This is my baby,” she emotionally expressed, emphasizing the personal impact of such tragedies. Authorities are urging anyone who may possess relevant information to come forward and contact the police.
