Police say a woman was fatally shot at an apartment complex in St. Petersburg early Tuesday morning.
The St. Petersburg Police Department said officers responded to a call about a shooting at the Reserve at Lake Pointe Apartments located on Lynn Lake Drive South around 6 a.m.
When they arrived, they found the woman, later identified as 25-year-old Yvonne Abernathy. Police said Abernathy lived in the complex and was shot in the hallway outside of her apartment.
Abernathy passed away, and the suspect is not in custody, according to officials. “We had K9 out here, we had a huge response, and we checked the entire complex to try to find the gunman, and that search was completed.
We didn’t find him,” said St. Pete Police spokesperson Yolanda Fernandez. Police were in the process of interviewing witnesses earlier Tuesday morning.
“We still have to talk to all of the witnesses to determine whether or not the victim knew the suspect, but they were outside the apartment together shortly before 6 a.m. this morning,” said Fernandez.
“That’s all we know right now, and we know that she was shot, and she was killed right there on the scene, and it was an apartment that she shared with a family member.”
