Alejandro Linares Obituary – A Miami man was apprehended by the police early Tuesday morning on a second-degree murder charge. The arrest came after he allegedly shot and killed a delivery driver in Opa-locka earlier this month.
The victim, identified as Alejandro Linares, was delivering groceries at the Mirage at Sailboat Cove apartments on June 8 when the incident occurred. According to a witness, Linares was delivering a graduation gift from Walmart for her son.
The suspect, Dawayen Anton Bendross, 22, from Liberty City, approached Linares as he was exiting his vehicle and shot him in the chest. Linares was rushed to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities have obtained CCTV footage of the incident, which clearly shows the shooting. They also discovered a .45 caliber casing at the scene. However, the motive behind the crime has not been disclosed by the police.
On Monday, Opa-locka police responded to a report of a person matching the description of the shooter in the vicinity. They detained Bendross and found a Glock .45 pistol that matched the casing found at the crime scene. Additionally, a witness positively identified Bendross as the individual depicted in a “need to identify” flyer related to the murder.
Miami-Dade police, who are leading the investigation, brought Bendross to their homicide bureau office in Doral for questioning. However, he chose not to cooperate with the detectives. According to the arrest report, Bendross was officially taken into custody shortly before 1 a.m. on Tuesday.
He was subsequently booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at around 4 a.m. and is currently being held without bond.
