Ryan Meuleman :Daniel Andrews Refuses to Hand Over Phone Records from Day of Accident with Cyclist on Mornington Peninsula

Ryan Meuleman, a young cyclist, was tragically struck by a vehicle driven by Daniel Andrews’ wife, Catherine, on January 7, 2013, in Blairgowrie, on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. Ryan, just 15 years old at the time, suffered severe injuries, including a punctured lung, broken ribs, internal bleeding, and the loss of 90% of his spleen.

Daniel Andrews, the former premier of Victoria, has been ordered by the Supreme Court to hand over his phone records from the day of the accident. However, Andrews is contesting the order, engaging prominent attorney Leon Zwier to challenge the ruling. The court order comes as part of a lawsuit filed by Ryan Meuleman against Slater & Gordon, a law firm he engaged following the collision.

Ryan’s father, Peter Meuleman, has expressed frustration and disappointment over Andrews’ refusal to comply with the court order. “He just received an Order of Australia and yet he’s doing this,” Peter Meuleman said. The matter will be heard in court in two weeks.

The accident occurred when Catherine Andrews turned right onto a street, and Ryan, who was traveling at speed, crashed into the front windshield of the vehicle. Daniel Andrews claimed that his wife immediately stopped the car and assisted Ryan, while he called Triple Zero to warn other drivers of the accident scene.

However, Ryan’s father disputes this account, claiming that the Andrews vehicle was traveling at speed and “came out of nowhere” when it hit his son. The police investigation summary concluded that the crash damage corroborated the Andrews’ story, and no further action was taken.

Ryan spent eleven days in the hospital recovering from his injuries. His father claims that Slater & Gordon failed to conduct a “full and proper investigation into the circumstances” surrounding the accident, leading to the lawsuit.

The refusal of Daniel Andrews to hand over his phone records has raised questions about what happened in the four minutes following the collision, and whether he made any calls, including to his former chief of staff and current assistant commissioner of Victoria Police, Brett Curran.

The community is rallying around Ryan and his family, offering support and prayers as they seek justice and accountability. The case has sparked debate about the importance of transparency and cooperation in investigations, especially when public figures are involved.
