The Alpine County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Raphael Jones Jr., a 74-year-old pilot from San Jose, was one of the two individuals who tragically lost their lives in a plane crash in Alpine County.
The incident occurred near Luther Pass, approximately 10 miles south of South Lake Tahoe, while Jones was flying a small plane on Wednesday.
Responding to reports of an overdue aircraft, officials arrived at the scene close to 1 a.m. on Thursday. Upon arrival, both Jones and 80-year-old Jeannette Shriver Singer from Lodi were pronounced dead.
The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the single-engine Luscombe 8A had departed from Lodi Airport on Wednesday afternoon.
