Hanna Shaffer Obituary – Authorities have confirmed the identity of a teenager from Carlisle who lost her life in a tragic accident on Sunday, which also left two others injured. The incident, as reported by the Iowa State Patrol, involved a Toyota Camry Solara traveling northbound on 200th Avenue in Warren County, occurring just before 11:30 p.m. on Sunday. The vehicle veered off the road near the intersection of 200th and Delaware Avenue, resulting in a rollover that ejected two of the three occupants.
One of the passengers, Hanna Shaffer, aged 15, was airlifted to a hospital in Des Moines, where she succumbed to her injuries, as stated in the Iowa State Patrol’s crash report. The 16-year-old driver and another 15-year-old passenger were transported to a hospital via ambulance, with their current conditions remaining unknown as of Saturday.
Recent statistics from the Iowa Department of Transportation reveal that 119 individuals have lost their lives on Iowa roads this year. This figure represents a decrease of 24 fatalities compared to the same period in 2023. Over the past five years, an average of 350 people have tragically perished annually in crashes across the state.
In light of this heartbreaking event, the Carlisle Community School District expressed their condolences to the Shaffer family and Hanna’s friends, acknowledging the challenging circumstances they are facing. The school district also shared details regarding visitation and funeral arrangements:
Family members will be available to receive friends on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. The funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Rising Sun Church of Christ.
Furthermore, all school district activities planned for Monday evening have been postponed.
