Walter Vinicio Diaz Perez Obituary – Over the course of a single weekend, three pedestrians lost their lives in separate accidents on Midlands roads, as reported by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The most recent incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Sunday in Sumter County, according to Master Trooper Gary Miller. A 2018 GMC pickup traveling south on U.S. 401 collided with a pedestrian near the intersection with Farmingdale Road, resulting in the pedestrian’s death. The identity of the deceased pedestrian has not been released by the Sumter County Coroner’s Office.
Miller confirmed that the driver of the pickup was unharmed, and no other injuries were reported. The Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash. Less than two hours prior, another fatal accident involving a pedestrian took place in Kershaw County.
Around 9:15 p.m. on Sunday, a 2006 Saturn sedan traveling north on U.S. 1 struck a pedestrian who was walking south in a northbound lane.
The pedestrian’s identity has not been disclosed by the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the sedan, who was the sole occupant, sustained minor injuries. No further details on the driver’s condition were provided.
Miller stated that no charges have been filed in connection with the collision, which marked the second deadly crash in Kershaw County that day.
Earlier, a pickup driver lost their life after the vehicle veered off the road and collided with a guardrail. Another fatal incident involving a pedestrian occurred on Saturday night in Lexington County, according to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the Highway Patrol.
Around 9:35 p.m. on Saturday, a 2004 Dodge SUV traveling north on Woodtrail Drive struck a pedestrian who was walking on the road near the intersection with Meadowfield Road, as reported by Ridgeway.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the pedestrian who tragically lost their life as 17-year-old Walter Vinicio Diaz Perez, a resident of Gaston. Fisher classified the incident as an accident and confirmed that the SUV struck the pedestrian.
