A man from Southern Arizona has passed away, as confirmed by the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, following a plane crash in Pinal County.

According to the PCSO’s X page, the man, known as James Galvin, 68, from Oro Valley, was the pilot of the aircraft that crashed near the peak of Picacho Peak. The crash was reported by a hiker who called 911 at approximately 7:25 a.m. on June 8.

“The pilot was the sole occupant of the small plane and was pronounced dead at the crash site,” a segment of the tweet stated.

Authorities mentioned that the scene will be handed over to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

In a released statement, NTSB officials mentioned that the crash occurred under circumstances that are currently unknown.

“An NTSB investigator is on the way to the location and is expected to arrive later today. Upon arrival, the investigator will initiate the process of documenting the scene and inspecting the aircraft.

The plane will then be transported to a secure facility for further examination,” a part of the statement explained.

Meanwhile, FAA officials have identified the aircraft as a single-engine Rans S-12XL Airaile.
