Venson Tahije Minatee Obituary
A pedestrian in Cherokee County, South Carolina, was struck and fatally injured by a train on Tuesday morning, as confirmed by Coroner Dennis Fowler.
The victim, identified as Venson Tahije Minatee, 25, of Osage Drive in Gaffney, was found lying between the rails of the track, 100 yards north of the 6th Street Crossing, when the southbound Amtrak train hit him at 4 a.m.
Despite the train operator sounding the horn multiple times to alert Minatee, he did not respond, according to Fowler. Minatee was declared dead at the scene, with a backpack and other personal items discovered near the tracks where the collision occurred, Fowler added.
In a separate incident, another pedestrian lost their life last Friday night near the 13th Street Crossing.
“These tragic events should remind individuals to avoid railroads for their safety,” Fowler emphasized.
