Vahid Khaledi Obituary

Texas police have reported that a fatal shooting occurred during an argument at a public library, resulting in the death of a 71-year-old man.

Vahid Khaledi was involved in a verbal dispute with Humberto Paz, 33, while visiting the library on May 11, according to Brownsville police. When authorities arrived at the scene, they discovered Khaledi with a gunshot wound to his head.

Although the exact details leading up to the shooting have not been confirmed by the police, Khaledi’s niece, Sarah, stated in a Facebook post that the argument began when Khaledi asked Paz to lower his voice.

Described as a peaceful man who was like a grandfather to his brother’s grandchildren, Khaledi was an avid reader who frequently visited the Brownsville library to stay updated on current events, as mentioned on a GoFundMe page created by his family.

Paz has been arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault, with his bail set at $3.25 million, according to the police.

Following the incident, the Brownsville Public Library Main Branch has been temporarily closed, while one branch remains open for public use. Brownsville is located approximately 275 miles south of San Antonio.
