Dad Donnie and Maureen MacKenzie, sister Cheryl MacKenzie-Butler (Donald Butler), niece Jessica Butler, son Dylan Bonnell, and his beloved best friend and companion Ramona Bruckschwaiger survive Scott.
Along with numerous uncles and aunts, Scott was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Wallace and Jessie Martell, and paternal grandparents, Norman and Rachel MacKenzie.

Scott was an outgoing and gregarious individual who was always well-liked by anyone who got to know him. When he was younger, Scott was well-known for his skillful hockey play and graceful skating.
Being chosen for the Atlantic Canada All Star squad, which played against high school hockey teams from around the country in the esteemed Hockey Night in Boston Tournament, was one of the high points of his hockey career.
Scott was a hockey player at Sydney Academy and Riverview High Schools. He frequently watched baseball and hockey on TV and was a devoted follower of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Blue Jays. Scott was a huge music fan and would listen to old tunes on his own time.
