Corey Roach Obituary
The man fatally shot by Columbus police after firing a rifle at officers on Saturday has been identified as Corey Roach, 50, by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.
Roach died at Mount Carmel East hospital following a shootout with officers who responded to a domestic violence call at the 4000 block of McAllister Avenue.
Upon arriving at the intersection of McAllister Avenue and Lockwood Road, officers encountered Roach, who was armed with a rifle. Prior to their arrival, Roach had fired shots at bystanders and aimed the rifle at a man on a bike, though no neighbors were harmed.
During the encounter, Roach fired shots at the officers, prompting at least one officer to return fire and strike Roach. The officers administered aid to Roach until medics arrived and transported him to Mount Carmel East, where he was later pronounced dead.
At the scene, officers and medics discovered a woman, identified as 45-year-old Nicole Pleasant, who had been shot by Roach before the police arrived. Pleasant was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 7:20 p.m.
While details surrounding Pleasant’s death remain undisclosed, Columbus police have indicated that it was related to a domestic situation. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is currently looking into the police-involved shooting.
