Robert Skaggs Obituary – Seven individuals were transported from the scene on Friday morning following a collision involving an Albany Police Department patrol car and a Crisp County Schools bus at a downtown intersection.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the school bus, traveling northbound on (North) Jefferson Street, entered the intersection as a police department officer responding to a burglary in progress call with lights and sirens activated also entered the intersection, according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Justin Lewis.
The police SUV was heading east at the time of the crash, which took place around 11 a.m. The police cruiser sustained significant damage to its front end.
A pedestrian standing on the sidewalk was struck by the school bus and was pinned between the bus and a traffic light, resulting in his death. The victim was later identified as Robert Skaggs, 67.
Three of the injured individuals were reported to be in critical condition. Among those transported to the hospital were students.
Two officers sustained injuries, with one already discharged from the hospital.
