The community of Dover, Delaware, is in mourning following the unexpected passing of Michael Anthony Brittingham on April 19, 2024. Michael was a beloved family man, friend, and pillar of the community, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.
Born on May 2, 1963, in Dover, Delaware, Michael was the oldest of six children to Bessie A. Rushin and Robert “Bobby” Young. He was a proud graduate of Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes, Delaware, and served in the United States Army for three years before working for various companies, including Grottos, Mountainaire Farms, and Perdue.
Michael, affectionately known as “Dog” or “Lil Mike,” was a devoted family man who delighted in spending time with his loved ones. He was always the first to arrive at family gatherings and the first to load plates for everyone. His favorite dish was often requested from his sister-in-law, Joyce.
A sports enthusiast, Michael was a die-hard fan of the San Francisco 49ers and enjoyed watching sports and betting on games with “the crew” at Grottos or Nicola Pizza on Sundays. He was also known to sit by the lake, particularly at Massey’s Landing Beach, to reflect and spend quality time with his brother, Hurt.
Michael’s passing has left a void in the lives of his family and friends, but his memory and legacy will live on through his mother, Bessie A. Brittingham; his six children; seven grandchildren; great-grandson; six siblings; and numerous nieces, nephews, and relatives.
In addition to his family, Michael is survived by special friends Jane Davis, Denise Miller, Felicia Collins, and Lynette Burroughs, who will deeply miss his presence and cherish the memories they shared with him.
The community is invited to celebrate Michael’s life and legacy, honoring his memory and the impact he had on those around him. His love, kindness, and generosity will never be forgotten, and his family and friends will continue to carry his spirit forward.
Rest in peace, Michael Anthony Brittingham. Your memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved and cherished you.
