Ronald James Courtney Obituary, Man shot, killed by police identified

Ronald James Courtney Obituary :

The individual who was fatally shot by law enforcement during an incident at an RV park on April 17 has been identified as Ronald James Courtney, a 61-year-old resident of Pueblo.

According to a social media post from Pueblo County Coroner Brian Cotter, Courtney died as a result of a gunshot wound sustained during the encounter with Pueblo police officers.

The incident began when the police responded to reports of animal cruelty at Fort’s RV Park on South Lake Avenue. Upon confronting the suspect, the officers informed him of an arrest warrant related to a DUI case in Alamosa County.

As the police attempted to apprehend the suspect, he drew a firearm from his pocket, prompting an officer to respond with gunfire in order to neutralize the threat.

The suspect was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Fortunately, no officers were harmed during the incident. The dog involved in the initial animal cruelty report is reported to be in good condition.

While an investigation is underway by the 10th Judicial District’s Critical Incident Response Team, one officer involved in the incident has been placed on paid leave.

The officer’s identity has not been disclosed. Once the officer is ready to resume duty, a wellness program will facilitate a gradual transition back into patrol duty, potentially starting with office work in an area of the department that aligns with their interests.
