A cherished member of the Rockford community, Calverta Palmer, passed away on April 3, 2024, at the age of 77, in the comfort of his own home. The town is in mourning over his passing.
The love that Calverta had for his family, his enthusiasm for athletics, and his admiration for smooth jazz music were the defining characteristics of his life.
His parents, Calvin Palmer and Clara Bell (Hawthorne) Palmer, welcomed Calverta into the world on July 7, 1946, in the town of Alsatia, Louisiana. On the 10th of May in 1987, he tied the knot with the woman who would become the love of his life, Berdena Hunter.
Together, they shared a multitude of precious memories, moments of love, and camaraderie. In order to demonstrate his strong work ethic and his commitment to care for his family, Calverta worked as a carpet layer and in a variety of factories throughout his whole life.
As members of the Rockford community gather together to express their sorrow over the passing of Calverta Palmer, they do so with a sense of appreciation for the influence he had on their lives and with the knowledge that his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who cared about him and knew him.
As a way of paying tribute to Calverta’s memory, let us celebrate his life and the happiness he offered to people around him through his passion for music, sports, and most importantly, his family.
