Tragically, a longtime teacher at Bala Cynwyd Middle School, Tim Mohan, was killed in a car crash on Tuesday night. I am writing to inform you of this with deep sadness. After 30 years of teaching social studies at BCMS, Mr. Mohan retired as a devoted husband and doting father. For a long time, he was also in charge of the school’s extracurricular activities and athletics.
In a statement made by BCMS principal Jeffrey Hunter, it was recalled that Mr. Mohan was a beloved and caring member of the BC community. From 1993 onwards, he could be seen smiling as he greeted his students in the hallway.
His students responded well to his storytelling and imaginative tales about American history, and he was an expert at engaging them. The BC Alma Mater, sung by him, occasionally out of tune and with the wrong lyrics, was also audible. As a middle school teacher, he had a profound understanding of the role.
Tragically, Mr. Mohan’s students and coworkers are both hit hard by this unexpected news. This morning, before school started, Mr. Hunter of Bala Cynwyd and Ms. Stout of Black Rock met with their staffs to inform them. (A lot of the people who work at BRMS now were at BCMS). Students at BCMS were informed by members of our Student Services team.

Please talk to your children about Mr. Mohan’s unexpected death in a way that is comfortable for you. He was a teacher at their school. Tools for discussing sensitive topics with students have been made available by our school counseling team.
