Tragically, I must inform you that our beloved colleague and friend, Dr. Misty Germaine, has passed away. When she started her journey with EMS ISD in 2006, she did so with a commitment and enthusiasm for education that would change our community forever. A tribute to Dr. Germaine’s steadfast dedication to student achievement and teacher agency is her career trajectory within the district.
Her career in education began as a kindergarten teacher at Bryson Elementary; she subsequently became a math interventionist at Remington Point and Comanche Springs after realizing her love for the subject. Her remarkable abilities in collaborating with educators and improving teaching methods led to her advancement to the roles of instructional math coach at Gilliland Elementary and, later, district elementary math coordinator.
Dr. Germaine was a passionate and committed educator who worked tirelessly over the course of her 18 years on staff to ensure that every student believed in his or her mathematical abilities. Her unfaltering dedication to public education and her legacy of building self-efficacy will live on through the scholarships she endowed for the benefit of future teachers.
The memory of Dr. Germaine, who lost her fight with cancer on April 1, 2024, will live on in our memories as an inspiration for perseverance and commitment.
In remembrance of her and in celebration of her extraordinary life, a visitation will be held from six in the evening to eight in the evening on April 7th at the Greenwood Funeral Home in Fort Worth, Texas. At 9:30 am on April 8th, the Chapel of Greenwood Funeral Home will host a Celebration of Life Service.
As an alternative to floral tributes, the Germaine family has asked that any donations be made to the EMS ISD Education Foundation in order to establish the Dr. Misty Germaine Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded to aspiring teachers.
