Tragically, I must break the news of my mother’s passing. My heart is heavy with grief. During the night of April 2nd, Kim Huff quietly passed away. One thing that everyone can agree on about my mom is her limitless love for being a mother and a grandmother. Being a mother and grandmother brought her the most joy, even though she loved science fiction, Starbase Indy, and crafting.
She exhibited the nurturing qualities of a mother to everyone she took in, treating them like her own. No one knows the depth of her love like her chosen family, friends, or biological children who have been lucky enough to feel her motherly love.
When my mom walked into a room, she immediately brightened it. A quality I am fortunate to have inherited, her contagious laughter brightened the room. Her infectious optimism brought joy to everyone she met and the rooms she graced; it’s no exaggeration to say she made everyone around her feel better.
In her absence, there is an incalculable emptiness. I find it hard to fathom a world devoid of her clever banter, her kind nature, and her uncomplicated yet comforting suggestion to “text me when you get there.” For all my problems, she was there to lend an ear, a shoulder, and a beacon of hope.
She was always there to help, even when she was fighting her own battles. Her willingness to help others was boundless. She selflessly continued to help others even in her last days, offering her skills in graphic arts and website design from her hospital bed.
When she isn’t around, the world seems darker. My mother’s generosity and kindness touched the lives of many people, and that gives me comfort. Those who would like to offer their condolences can find her obituary, which includes information regarding her funeral, at the link I have provided below.
I take comfort in the lasting impression my mother made on everyone who knew her and in the fond memories we shared as I work through this deep loss.
