The fourteenth of January, 1955 found Dale L. Barnes Jr. being born in Greenfield, Iowa. He is the offspring of Dale Barnes, Sr. and Doris (David) Barnes. During his time at Greenfield High School, Dale was a member of the graduating class of 1973. In the field of law enforcement, he received his education at Kirkwood Community College. On June 20, 1976, Dale wed the woman who would become the love of his life, Sharon L. Mader, that took place at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Center Point. With six children and 47 years of marriage, the couple considered themselves to be wonderfully blessed. In his 42 years of service to the law enforcement community, Dale was a diligent worker.

It was in 2019 when he took his retirement from the Jones County Sheriff’s office. Due to the fact that he took pleasure in creating a positive impact on his community, he was voted to serve as Mayor of Anamosa for numerous times.

The Wapsipinicon State Park and Jones County Conservation were two other places where he found great satisfaction in his work. Dale cherished the time he had to spend with his family. He consistently looked forward to the time of year when he could go fishing with his family and friends as well as hunt deer.

By demonstrating what it means to put the needs of others ahead of one’s own, Dale was an outstanding example to follow. When it came to standing up for what was right and fighting for those who were unable to fight for themselves, he was dependable, steadfast, and honest. Dale was cherished by many people and will be sorely missed by all!
