His parents, Brad and Marilyn (Bauer) Taylor, raised him in Fort Pierre, and he received his high school diploma from Stanley County High School in the year 2004. He was given the moniker “Opie” by his high school football coach, and it was a term that remained with him throughout his entire life.
His athletic skill and leadership on the football field won him the nickname. An experience that he would never forget, representing South Dakota in the Down Under Bowl in Australia following his senior year, was a highlight of his youthful athletic career. He would never forget participating in the Down Under Bowl. In the years after his graduation from high school, Opie turned his love of the great outdoors into a successful career as the proprietor and operator of Marshall Lawn Irrigation. Both Matthews Farms and Sharpe Enterprises were among the companies that he worked for during the off season. Ryan was a man who lived life to the fullest, approaching each day with an adventurous attitude and a smile that was full of mischief.
His love for hunting and fishing was more than just a hobby; it was a passion that he inherited from his father. Opie and his brother Jason had a friendly competition between them, and they were always trying to outdo each other on their hunting and fishing trips. They were always looking for the next big catch or the largest buck as they went about their activities. Not only will those who knew him remember his stories of these experiences, but they will also remember the playful competition that he and his brother had engaged in. Opie was a social butterfly who never ever encountered a stranger. He had an extraordinary ability to form connections with people that would remain for a long time. When he went on his scouting expeditions, he always brought cookies that his mother had prepared from scratch, and he proudly professed himself to be a momma’s boy.
He is survived by his mother Marilyn Patterson Patterson and his father Brad Taylor, who is married to Linda, as well as his brother Jason Taylor, who is married to Donita, his nephew Nathan, his niece Raegan, and his grandmother Lois Bauer. Additionally, he is survived by his stepbrothers Ryan Patterson (Ashley) and Chris Anglin, his stepsisters Brooke Anglin (Chase) and Jill Hanson (Jim), and their respective families, in addition to a large number of family members, including aunts, uncles, and cousins. His grandfather Roland Bauer, his great-grandparents, and his cousins Justin Bronson and Robbie Johnson all passed away before him.
