On the following Friday, March 15, 2024, John Joseph Reedy, who had been a resident of Middlebury and had reached the age of 67 at the time of his passing, passed suddenly unexpectedly at his residence. He was surrounded by the loving presence of his wife in the minutes leading up to his passing away with her by his side. He was born in Terre Haute on July 17, 1956, to the late Donald A. Reedy and Virginia (Trout) Reedy. His parents have now passed away. It is now too late for his parents to be alive. His parents are no longer able to be saved at this point in time.
After spending his entire life in love with Catherine S. “Cathy” Harris, John finally tied the knot with her on June 17th, 1978. She was the lady he had loved for the entirety of his life. The event was held at Elkhart, Indiana, in the United States. John is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Cathy Reedy; his son, John Reedy II, who is married to Valerie; his daughters.
All of John Reedy’s siblings, including Donna, Michael, and Jeannie Reedy, as well as his brother-in-law, Steve Miller, had already passed away prior to his passing. John Reedy was the only member of his family to have survived to adulthood. Even before he was born, his parents were among those who had already passed away. His parents had already passed away. Cathy Reedy of Middlebury; son, John (Valerie) Reedy II of West Chester, OH; daughters, Kelly Jean Reedy of Elkhart, and Kimberly A. (Captain Kristopher, USAF) Koll of Cheyenne, WY; grandchildren, Maya, Cora, and Tessa Reedy, all of West Chester, OH, James Anderson, Jr., of Middlebury, and Wolfgang and Rosalind Koll, both of Cheyenne, WY; siblings, Steven, Mark (Glenna), Rose, Christine, and Amy Reedy, and Ginny Chole Miller, all of Terre Haute; and a loving host of extended family, friends, and acquaintances. The memorial ceremony for John, which is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 22, will be held at the Billings Funeral Home as designated by the funeral home.
The funeral service will take place immediately after the visitation, which will take place between the hours of one and two o’clock in the afternoon. It is scheduled that the visiting will take place in the afternoon. The ceremony will be presided over by Pastor Jeremy Sarber, who is associated with Billings Funeral Home. He will act as the officiant. Immediately following the conclusion of the services, the cremation should take place in accordance with the desires that were communicated by the family. After fifteen years of service at Middlebury Community Schools, John decided to retire in July of 2023. He had been employed there for that period of time. Before that, he had spent thirty years working for EFP in Elkhart in order to accumulate enough money for his retirement. When John had last worked there, it had been thirty years since he had quit.
There was a general consensus that John was a talented runner who competed in a wide range of events, including road races, cross-country races, and track and field championships. By the time he was far into his forties, he had already triumphed in a number of automobile competitions held in the region.
He was able to finish a five-kilometer run in a time of 14 minutes and 56 seconds, which is a fantastic achievement for someone of his age. It is incredible that he was able to do this. During the year 1972, John was a member of the Terre Haute North X-C State Championship Team. During that same year, he was honored as a High School National All-American while he was competing for the team. To add insult to injury, he was a part of the team that ultimately triumphed in the competition for the state championship.
Following that, he made the decision to transfer to Southwestern Michigan College, which is located in Dowagiac, Michigan. While there, he took part in the cross-country race. It was at this period that he was a member of the 1975 X-C Team that triumphed in the National Championship competition. A member of the First Team All-American competition, he finished seventh in the nation on an individual basis and was the recipient of recognition for his accomplishments.
In 2019, John was inducted into the Indiana Track and Cross-Country Hall of Fame, which is the most prestigious distinction that can be conferred upon a person. This honor can be considered the pinnacle of athletic achievement. This honor was bestowed upon him as a result of the fact that he was a member of the high school team that achieved a record in the 4×1 Mile Relay that he took part in.
This record had been kept for more than three decades during the period of its existence. As a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and friend who possessed a soul that was passionate, resolute, and diligent, John will be remembered most fondly by his family and friends with the utmost affection.
He is someone who will be remembered as someone who made an indelible mark on people who were in his immediate vicinity. All of the love and happiness that he shared with other people will be profoundly missed by those whose hearts he touched during his life. Their hearts will be impacted by his life. Those who had a similar heart to his will also miss him significantly.
