The following is a sad news report on the demise of a lovely person who was close to many people in Longford and beyond. It is with great sadness that we notify you of this tragic news. Moorland, Marlinstown, Mullingar, Westmeath, and Granard, Longford resident May McCarthy (née Lynch) has passed away.
She was also a Granard resident. It is with deep regret that the Longford Eye wishes to convey their heartfelt condolences to the deceased’s family and friends.

Cherished and devoted mother of Ciarán, Finian, Jimmy, Rosemary, Pádraig, Colm, Áine, Finola, Siobhán, and Cormac; May will be sadly missed and forever loved by her sons and daughters, sisters Peggy (USA), Betty (Dublin) and brother Mel (USA), her adored twenty four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.
It is also important to remember the members of the McCarthy and Lynch families who have passed away. The body will be lying in repose at Gilsenan’s Funeral Home, located at College Street, Mullingar N91 K660, beginning at four o’clock on Wednesday, March 20, and will be followed by prayers at seven o’clock.
Following the funeral mass that will be held on Thursday afternoon at one o’clock at the Cathedral of Christ the King, the burial will take place in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Marlinstown. May their souls rest in peace, as the Irish phrase goes: Ar dheis Dé go raibh an n-anamacha.
