In a calm and serene manner, April Woods Harris, 68 years old, a resident of Danville, Pennsylvania, passed away in her home on Sunday, March 17, 2024. She was the daughter of Walter A. Woods, who passed away, and June (Maier) Woods, who also passed away, and she was born on April 24, 1955 in Long Branch, New Jersey. Having spent her childhood in Monmouth County, New Jersey, April received her high school diploma from Middletown in 1973. She earned a degree in Business from Lycoming College, where she studied for four years and graduated in 1978.
At the Navesink United Methodist Church in Middletown Township, New Jersey, on July 8, 1978, April tied the knot with Jan E. Harris, who would later become her husband of 45 years.
In 1979, April and her husband made the move to Danville, where they established a life that revolved on their expanding family.
Her life revolved around the interests of her sons, whether it was serving as a home room mother for elementary school students, a den leader for Cub Scouts, a group leader at Camp Lavigne Cub Scout camp, or a team mother for AYSO soccer teams. In addition to attending Trinity United Methodist Church and St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, April was actively involved in a wide variety of church activities.
Some of her activities included teaching vacation bible school, serving meals, and working at the food bank facility. Prior to beginning her family, April had held positions in the retailand banking industries. In her latter years, she worked at Panera Bread. In addition to her husband, April is survived by her five sons and their families.
The Reverend Andrew Burd-Harris, who is married to Megan, lives in Middletown, Pennsylvania; Active Air Force Lt. Col. Daniel Harris, who is married to Cindy, lives in Woodbridge, Virginia; Timothy Harris, who is married to Emily; Jonathan Harris, who is married to Chelsea, lives in Sinking Springs, Pennsylvania; and Matthew Harris, who is married to Chloe from Danville, Pennsylvania.
Additionally, she is survived by her six grandchildren, namely Emma Belle, Kate, Eliza, Alice, Owen, and David, in addition to a newborn girl who is expected to be born in April. One of her brothers, Walter A. Woods, III, passed away before her. Her parents were also among those who came before her in death. In accordance with the wishes of the family, the services will be held in private.
