On March 27, 2021, Richard Francis Dooley, who worked as the proud proprietor and operator of Van’s Appliance in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, passed away in a tranquil manner. He was aged 83 at the time. Richard was brought up in Scotch Plains alongside his brother, Martin, from the time he was born to his parents, Joseph Dooley and Martha (née Wallace). In 1955, he received his diploma from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, where he had attended.
Richard (Rick) Dooley, his son, looked up to him as a dedicated and caring father, and the two of them shared a passion for fly-fishing in the freshwater trout streams of New Jersey and Montana. Fishing for stripers was another activity that they enjoyed doing on the Jersey beach and on Cape Cod.
Richard was able to obtain his pilot’s license and began flying with his pals in smaller aircraft. Because of his daring and exploratory nature, Rich enjoyed participating in a wide variety of outdoor activities, including skiing, sailing, windsurfing, and motorcycling.
Rich was constantly busy and working, whether he was outdoors tending to his home or working in the garage. He would spend hours doing either of these things. It was a blessing for him to have spent his entire life in his home in Scotch Plains, which was located in a wonderful community and was surrounded by friends and neighbors who were close to him.
Rich was a dependable appliance repairman who answered service calls from customers at any time of the day or night. He was well-known across Union County. A significant number of his clients have been with him for more than thirty years. The Dooley family would like to use this opportunity to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the hundreds of their devoted clients.
His granddaughter, Margaret Dooley, his daughter-in-law, Sarah Pelletier, his goddaughter, Helen Mary Tyszka, and his sister-in-law, Rose Dooley, are among those who are left behind after Rich’s passing.
There are a number of others who have been left behind, including Rich’s son Kevin, his wife Emily, and their children Anna, Charlotte, Gabrielle, and Michael together. Furthermore, Rich’s son Rich, his wife Allison, and their children Joseph, James, Jacob, Mary, Joshua, and Joel are among those who have survived following his passing.
William Dooley and his wife Clare Cushing Dooley, as well as James Dooley and his wife Judy Amato, who had died away; Thomas Dooley and his wife Erin Burke Dooley; Gerard [Jerry] Dooley and his wife Margie Hogan Dooley; and James Dooley and his wife Judy Amato as previously mentioned.
Rich’s family would like to take this opportunity to not only thank all of his family members, friends, and coworkers who were a part of his journey through life, but also to express their appreciation for the love and support they have shown him during his journey. Rich, I ask that you continue to keep him in your prayers and thoughts.
