Hubbard Hospice House – West in South Charleston, West Virginia was the location where Richard Allen Comer, age 81, of Alum Creek, West Virginia, died away on Saturday, March 16, 2024. His parents, Job and Nellie Dunlap Comer, as well as his son-in-law, Mark Clark, and his sister-in-law, Connie Comer, passed away before him.
In 1960, he received his diploma from Charleston High School and went on to retire from Hobet Mining after working there for thirty years. In the years 1964 and 1966, he was a member of the United States Army Military Police.
Richard is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nancy, his son, Richard “Rick” Comer II, his granddaughter, Sierra (Jake) Kennedy, and his grandson, Richard “Cruz” Comer III, his daughter, Beth Comer Clark, his granddaughter, Savannah Clark, and his grandson, Mark “Chase” Clark II.
Several nieces and nephews, as well as his brothers Doyle (Jean Ann) Comer of Ocala, Florida and Romie Comer of Lewisburg, West Virginia, are among those who are able to carry on his legacy.
Richard, a devoted Shriner who is also a member of the Hazelwood Lodge of Seymour and the Scottish Rite of Joplin, was able to make a positive impact on the lives of a tremendous number of youngsters through his sponsorship with the Shrine.
In spite of the fact that he was known for his charitable nature, Richard never hesitated to assist a neighbor who was in need. Richard’s enthusiasm for fishing offered him joy and peace throughout the day, and his Great Dane, Lexie, was his best friend and constant companion. Together, they shared in innumerable moments of love and adventure. Both his affection and his generosity will be sorely lost, and they will be remembered for all time.
