A real original rebel, passed away this morning after a courageous struggle with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. We share the news of his passing with you in a statement that is both bittersweet and heartbreaking that we share with you. As we pay our respects to his memory, we take a moment to contemplate the extraordinary life of a man who lived his life with a spirit of defiance, courage, and passion.
It was not enough for Ricky to be a father and grandfather; he was also a force of nature, a guy who discovered peace and happiness in the wide-open spaces of nature.
Whether he was playing golf, going on a hike, or hunting, he was always at his happiest when he was surrounded by the splendor of nature and embracing the freedom that it provided him. Ricky’s resiliency and tenacity never wavered, even in the face of the difficulties he encountered in his later years. He continued to defy the odds with his irrepressible spirit and sense of humor even while he was residing in a nursing home, where the nurses affectionately referred to him as “Mr. Slippery” due to his attempts to escape from the facility.
But arguably the most significant legacy that Ricky leaves behind is the people whose lives he changed via his altruistic efforts to assist others in overcoming drinking and addiction. During the later part of his life, he devoted himself to helping and guiding those who were in need. He frequently utilized his passion for golf and the outdoors as a means of healing and connecting with others.
Ricky’s friends in Arizona held him in high esteem due to his unflinching loyalty, friendliness, and generosity. He was a beloved figure among his friends. He left behind a legacy of love, compassion, and camaraderie on the lives of those who were fortunate enough to be in his immediate vicinity.
His influence was incalculable. While we are saying our goodbyes to Ricky, we take solace in the knowledge that he is finally at rest, liberated from the shackles of illness and experiencing no more misery. It is possible that his physical presence is no longer with us, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who had the honor of knowing him.
