The Lane House in Crawfordsville was the location where Marvin Shaw spent his final moments on Wednesday. On November 11th, 1932, he was born in Arthur, Illinois parents Pearl Brian Shaw and Ruth (Keys) Flood-Shaw, both of whom have now passed away.
Following his graduation from Arthur High School in Illinois in 1952, Marvin honorably served his country in the United States Army as a Sargent from 1953 until 1955. Upon his return to his hometown, he enrolled in an auctioneering school.
His first work as an auctioneer was selling horses at the Arthur Sale Barn in Arthur, Illinois. He continued to auctioneer at a variety of farm sales for the next four decades.
One of his favorite occupations was assisting in the sale of the 4-H animals that were owned by both boys and girls at the auctions held by the Fountain County 4-H. In addition to that, he worked for Southeast Fountain Schools as a school bus driver for a period of thirty-five years.
The task of transporting the children to their different school and athletic events was something that he loved doing very much. Many people remembered him as one of the best school bus drivers in the history of the profession.
The banty hens that traveled under the school bus all the way to school were one of the many wonderful memories that he had. The pupils were required to catch the chickens since they rode beneath the bus. Marvin Ashwill tied the knot with Helen Ashwill on October 7, 1967, and she is still alive today.
In addition, he is survived by his two sons, Kevin W. Shaw (Christine) of Hillsboro and Kurt A. Shaw of Kingman; his nephew, Dennis Conn, of Tuscola, Illinois; his great niece, Tracy Bovee, of Bloomington, Illinois, and her three sons; his nieces, Linda Flood of Texas and Lisa Flood of Wisconsin; and his great nephew, Elliott Conn, of Champaign, Illinois.
The following individuals passed away before Marvin: his parents; his sisters, Marjorie Conn and Shirley Swisher-Schrock; his stepbrothers, Joseph Shaw and Jim Flood; and his nephew, Michael Swisher.
