We received the news this morning that one of our previous residents, Cindy Hanna, had gone away while she was accompanied by her family. It is with a great deal of regret that we received this information. Her birth took place on June 13, 1926 in Wayne, Alberta, but she spent the majority of her childhood in Canmore, Alberta. It was there that she found the greatest joy in barefooting through the meadows, skiing, and climbing the mountains that she cherished.
Cynthia received her nursing degree at Holy Cross Hospital, and then she went on to complete her education at McGill University, where she earned her degree in Public Health.Following her graduation, she was instrumental in the establishment and development of the first Public Health Units in the province of Alberta, ranging from Camrose to Provost.
Following her nursing career, Cynthia devoted a significant portion of her time to providing care for elderly patients. She began her career by working for the Good Samaritan Society, and she ultimately concluded her career by working for the Alberta Health Long Term Care Branch
. Throughout her career, she had a big heart and made a difference in a lot of people’s lives. “My greatest accomplishment was being a mother to four beautiful and wonderful children whom I love and cherish,” she said in her own words to describe her accomplishments.
Undoubtedly, I am blessed. The person who was the love of Cynthia’s life, John Adams Hanna, as well as her two brothers, Alex and Ken, her sister-in-law Gretta (Walter) Kaasa, and her two sons-in-law, Sandro and Gary, all passed away before her.
Cynthia’s sense of humor, her strength, and the profound faith that she would share with everyone around her are the things that will be remembered about her enduring legacy. Her later years were marked by an unwavering sense of gratitude, and she never stopped believing that she had been truly blessed.
She was a polite and kind woman who will be greatly missed by all those who loved her and could count themselves fortunate to have had the opportunity to have her influence and love them.
