I am writing this post with a heavy heart to inform you that Chic Blacklaw, who was a member of the Coulter CBC, passed away yesterday night at the age of 83. My prayers are with his wife Anne and the rest of his family during this difficult time.
Karen is survived by her cherished sister Constance Chaffee, her brother-in-law Gary, her nieces Dawn Chaffee and Denise (Jeff) Jackson, as well as their children Avery and Ella Jane Jackson, her nephew Jon Michael Chaffee, all of whom reside in Texas, and her stepbrother John Russell, who is married to Luana and lives in Midland, United States of America.
Those who were close to her, including her sister-in-law Sharon (Blacklaw) Duff and her husband Michael, her niece Sarah (Dan) Donovan, and her nephew Jon Duff, will mourn her unendingly. Their children, Jane and Michael Donovan, as well as Logan and Colton Duff, are also included.
John and Phyllis Cornelius welcomed their daughter Karen into the world on October 16, 1939, in the city of Chicago, Illinois. Following a number of relocations, the family eventually found a new home in Royal Oak, Michigan, where Karen began her seventh grade education.
After graduating from high school, Karen went on to earn a master’s degree from Michigan State University. She worked as a secretary at the Ford Glass Plant in the time when she was not attending school.
1968 was the year that Karen began her teaching career at Mary Lyon Junior High. She retired from Royal Oak Schools after a long and eventful career that included positions as a reading assistance specialist, principal, and teacher during her time there. 1973 was the year that Karen and Dick tied the knot.
After another five years, they relocated to Clarkston and constructed the house that they have occupied for more than four decades. 2016 marked the year that they finally moved into their condo in Clarkston. Karen had a wide range of interests, including but not limited to: touring the world, going to the theater, reading (she was a member of multiple book clubs), cooking, golfing, and hosting a large number of parties at their house. Karen had a large number of friends her entire life, all of whom she treasured and remained in touch with.
There are a lot of people who will miss her because she always had a quick smile and an easy chuckle. One of the things that brought Karen and Dick a great deal of happiness throughout their lives was the six amazing dogs that they had together.
