It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you of the passing of Ron Hammer, a longtime support specialist who was also a colleague of ours. His absence will be keenly felt by each and every employee at Persyst. It was a pleasure to collaborate with him, and he made a significant enhancement to both our organization and our industry. On Thursday, January 25, 2018, Ronald Lloyd Hammer, who resided in Salt Lake City, Utah, lost his battle with metastatic prostate cancer.
He went away in the comfort of his own home. On February 18, 1940, Ron Hammer was born in Salt Lake City to his parents, Lloyd Hammer and Theora Pugmire Hammer. He received his diploma from South High School and went on to graduate from the University of Utah, where he was appointed to the position of ASUU Student Body Officer and was a proud member of Pi Kappa Alpha for his whole life.
What was once a Pike is always a Pike! Taking place in the Salt Lake Temple on February 21, 1968, Ron tied the knot with Judy Elkins. This was the year that they were looking forward to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.Their six children, Kristen, Chelle, Whitney, Colter, Logan, and Codye, brought them a great deal of joy and satisfaction as parents. Ron’s life was centered around his family, music, cycling, fishing, and spending time at the family cabin in Wildwood.
His hobbies in life revolved around these activities. Ron was well-known in the cycling scene due to the fact that he had participated in events all throughout the state and had represented Utah at state and national contests. Over the course of several years, he was the President of the Pedali Bike Club. There was a significant amount of music throughout Ron’s life. Along with the Canyon Rim Second Ward Choir, he was a member of the Eleanor Kennard Chorale and the Salt Lake Symphonic Choir, where he contributed his powerful tenor voice.
Ron was a man of strong religion who devoted his entire being to his devotion for his church.He had served in the Central German Mission when he was a young man, and later on, he went on a church service mission at the Palmer Court Branch with his girlfriend as his companion.
He was an enthusiastic member of the LDS Church. Study groups and dinner groups were two of Ron’s favorite things to do with his lifelong pals. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our deepest gratitude to Elevation Hospice for their compassionate care during the closing weeks of his life.
