Phillip Simon Obituary, Death, A Life Lived with Passion and Purpose

On June 6, 2023, Philip Howard Simon, who was 84 years old and lived in Dayton, Ohio, passed away peacefully from cancer. Following his graduation from Ohio University in 1964, he went on to become a teacher at Trotwood Madison High School, where he also served as the chair of the Social Studies Department. In his capacity as Secretary of the Ohio Association of Student Council, Phil served with great delight.

Over the course of many years, he participated in bowling with his family and friends and served as a board member for the Dayton Bowling Association. During the Dayton City Bowling Tournament, which took place at Capri Lanes on January 28, 1973, he was awarded the first of two 300-ring milestones. Cathy Baumgardner, Ron Simon, Bob Simon, Mike Simon, David Tucker, and Jennifer Tucker were among his children that survived him. He was survived by his wife, Linda Simon, whom he had been married to for 44 years.

On July 14, at three o’clock in the afternoon, there will be a memorial ceremony held in celebration of Phil’s memory for friends, family, and church friends. The service will take place at Calvary South Dayton Church, which is located at 3150 W. Alex-Bell Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45449. Phillip was a member of the McNair marching band and thoroughly enjoyed playing the tenor drum for the school system in Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended school. The Morris Brown Marching Wolverines were able to take him to Pasadena, California, which was a wonderful opportunity for him. In the year 1994, he relocated back to Sylvania, which was his hometown.

During this time, he got highly connected and active with the young people of Screven County. Soulja Squad was one of the organizations that Phillip helped to establish, and he also taught dance at Shades of Arts. It was because of his contributions that they were able to establish their drumline. After that, he joined Schechinah Worship Center, where he became a mime dancer for Selah, which ultimately led to him joining the Anointed Praise and Dance Team of the church. Both he and Pastor Chris Thomas were instrumental in the establishment of the Hawk Enrichment Center.

Following his relocation to Effingham County, he entered into holy marriage with Mariya Thomas on May 27, 2017, and as a result of this union, two families were brought together. Prior to his departure from this world, he made significant contributions to the Effingham Outlaws, where he served as both a co-founder and vice president. He passed away while indulging in the activities that he had cherished the most: mentoring young guys and playing the game that he cherished
