It was on Monday, March 11, 2024, at the age of 66, that Janet Durant, who resided in Mayfield, Kansas, passed away at her residence. Her parents, Edward and Beatrice “Betty” Ewertz Zoglman, welcomed her into the world on September 4, 1957, in the town of Wellington, Kansas.
Through her graduation from Wellington High School, Janet was a member of the ‘Class of 1975.’ First Christian Church in Wellington, Kansas was the location where Janet and Jim Durant exchanged their vows and became husband and wife on October 25, 1975. In the years leading up to his death in 2022, they had celebrated more than 46 years of marriage together.
Lunch lady’ is a nickname that many people have for Janet. Beginning at Eisenhower Elementary School and continuing on to Wellington High School, where she remained until her retirement, she worked in the kitchen for more than forty years, earning a total of three hundred and fifty dollars. Janet spent a significant amount of time outside of work canning vegetables that were grown in the home garden of her husband.
She was a skilled seamstress who incorporated love into every piece she produced, including the wedding dresses she sewed for both of her daughters. She was a great seamstress. Over the course of many years, Janet served as a volunteer and was in charge of the Sunday school office at the First Christian Church, where she was a member.
Regardless of the difficulty, Janet was always able to rise to the occasion with poise and resolve. She had a personality that was unpredictable and fiery, and many people will remember her for that. Janet is survived by her daughter, Kristy Dekat, and her husband, Jay, who reside in Topeka, Kansas; her son, Mike Durant, who resides in Park City, Kansas; her daughter, Cheryl Perkins, who resides in Derby, Kansas, and her husband, Justin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Al Kralicek, and her cherished husband, Jim Durant. Her parents and brother are both deceased. The passing of Janet has left a hole in the hearts of many people, but the people whose lives she has touched will carry her memory with them forever and make it shine brightly.
