Donald Speas Obituary, Death, Honoring The Memory Of Donald Speas

This past Thursday, March 7, 2024, Donald Lee Speas, who was 75 years old and lived in Cumberland, Virginia, passed away. Donald was born in Cumberland to Orburn Lee Speas, who passed away, and Shirley Rose Speas, who also passed away. Donald, who graduated from Cumberland High School in 1996, spent his early years working as the General Manager of Cumberland Restaurant.

After that, he became the proprietor of O. L. Speas Hardware in Cumberland until then.
Over the course of more than three decades, Donald served the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department as a member and official, and he did it with a great deal of enthusiasm and exhaustion. As someone who was always in tune with the local fire scanner, Donald was always ready and eager to respond to the needs of his community, regardless of the time of day or night.

In addition to his commitment to the Cumberland Fire Department, Donald was also a member of the Cumberland Masonic organization and a devoted member of the Cumberland Hunting Party, which was located on Goshen Road in Cumberland.

He cherished the camaraderie, the exchange of stories, and the high-quality meals that were frequently provided by the hunt club. His parents passed away before him, and he is survived by his sister Shirley Ann, his brother Bruce, his niece Zoe Speas, and his sister-in-law Cathy Speas.

His parents were the ones that passed away before him. At two o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, March 14, 2024, there will be a service held at the graveside at the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, which is located on Cartersville Road in Cumberland, Virginia.

The family is assisted by Shorter Funeral Home at this time. The Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department would appreciate it if, in place of flowers, donations were sent to the organization.
