As a former member of the Gormandale Football Netball Club, Neil Lane passed away recently. The club would like to express its deepest sympathies to the Lane family on the loss of their loved one. We are thinking of Neil’s friends and family during this trying time. Our prayers are with you.
It has been determined that the deceased individual is Ryan Blankenship, a Newport News resident who was 22 years old. This incident is still being looked into by authorities. Investigations are being conducted by the Hampton Police Division into a tragic collision between a motorbike and a car that took place on January 30, 2024.
A call was received by Public Safety Communications at around 6:58 p.m., informing them of a collision involving many vehicles that had occurred at the intersection of Neil Armstrong Parkway and Nettles Lane.
When the cops arrived, they discovered that a motorbike and a pick-up truck had been engaged in a collision, and that there was an adult male who was unresponsive at the site. Members of the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue arrived at the site and determined that the victim had passed away. Prior to the notification of the victim’s next-of-kin, the identify of the victim is being withheld.
It has been determined via the preliminary investigation that the motorbike was heading in the northbound direction on Neil Armstrong Parkway at the time of the collision with the pick-up vehicle that was traveling in the westbound direction off of Nettles Lane.
The individual who was driving the pick-up vehicle remained at the scene and is providing assistance to the inquiry. The members of the Hampton Division Accident Reconstruction Team are continuing their investigation into this occurrence.
