Steve O’Connell Death, Obituary, A Life Celebrated, A Legacy Remembered

I share the news of my buddy and bandmate Steve O’Connell’s passing with heavy heart. Steve was a founding member of Chicago Total Access and departed the band three years ago to take up residence in Southport, North Carolina, for his retirement.

Steve is among the best musicians I have ever had the privilege of performing with; he is a brilliant craftsman and artist. He would always push us all to reach new heights throughout practice and performances. Without his musicality, the world is a lesser place, and we miss him terribly. Cheers to you, friend!

As a contractor, he devoted his professional life to constructing and renovating numerous homes in the New Richmond and St. Croix County regions. He began his career as an independent contractor, working for Al Strumke and other companies, after working for Harry Hop and Wayne Coleman. Stephen was a member of the First Hall of Fame Class of distinguished New Richmond bowlers and enjoyed bowling in his free time. He was passionate about camping and loved getting together with family and friends.

He then purchased land in the Hertel region and enjoyed spending time with his family in his cabin. He liked to shoot deer, fix cars, mow the lawn, watch TV shows like Wheel of Fortune and CMT, and watch the Packers play. But having raised an eight-person family was his biggest achievement.

Tarah Wickenhauser, Stephen’s granddaughter, her parents William and Sandra O’Connell, brothers George, Ed, and Gerald O’Connell, sisters Winnie Halverson, June Bockman, Allene Evanson, and Betty Hawkins, in-laws Bruce Hop, Roger Nelson, Jack Doyle, Ronnie Bockman, Ted Halverson, and Paul Hawkins predeceased him. Donations to the New Richmond Meals on Wheels Programme will be accepted. It is advised to get flower arrangements from Avalon Floral in Eau Claire, WI.
