Robert Jornlin Obituary, Death, Quintessential Founding Members Of The USS LST Ship Memorial, Inc Passed Away

We are very sorry to inform you of the passing of Captain Robert “Bob” Jornlin, who was a founder member of the USS  – LST Ship Memorial, Inc. and was considered to be one of our most important founding members.

He was the captain that led the Gold Crew in bringing the ship back from Greece, and he contributed countless hours of service to our organization in a variety of different ways. At the age of 84, commander Robert “Bob” Jornlin, who had previously served as the commander of the LST-325, has passed away.

Chris Donahue, the director of the USS LST Ship Memorial, has informed us that Robert was a close friend of his for almost twenty years. This is what he has to say about the matter.

According to the authorities, Robert was the captain who was given the responsibility of transporting the LST back from Greece in the year 2001 and then to Evansville in the year 2005.

As stated in his obituary, Robert was a proud veteran of the United States Navy who served on two LSTs during the years 1961 to 1965. Someone said in his obituary, “He treasured his friends and experienced a large number of them throughout his travels in the United States.” It was clear to everyone who knew him that he had a deep affection for his family, his friends, and life in general.

According to his friends and family, Robert has devoted a significant amount of time over the course of the past few years to the restoration of a 1947 Willys Jeep so that he can drive it in parades.

On Wednesday, March 13, from five to seven o’clock in the evening, his visitation will be place at the United Presbyterian Church in Earlville, which is located at 620 S Ottawa Street in Earlville, Illinois. On the 14th of March, at eleven o’clock in the morning, the funeral will take place at the church. For further information, please go here.
