Born on September 25, 1962, in Lebanon, New Hampshire, Michael Christopher Mark, affectionately known as Mike, lived a life marked by deep faith and an unwavering commitment to family and community. The unexpected passing of this beloved figure on March 1, 2024, left a void in the hearts of those who knew him.
Childhood and Faith Journey
Mike was the second of five children born to Margaret Mark Faneuf and Bradley Mark. The family’s move to Concord in 1969 set the stage for Mike’s lifelong connection to the Immaculate Heart of Mary parish. As a young altar server alongside his brothers, Tim and Tom, Mike’s faith journey began to unfold.
A Man of Humor and Compassion
Wit and Humor
Mike’s wit and comic timing were his gifts to those around him. Known as the funniest person in the room during family gatherings, his humor was a source of joy for family and friends. Despite his comedic talents, Mike was a man of privacy when it came to prayer, attending weekly Sunday Mass online at IHM and offering prayers to those in need.
Baseball Enthusiast
From a young age, Mike idolized Carl Yastrzemski, donning a license plate that proudly displayed his allegiance to the Boston Red Sox. His love for baseball extended beyond being a fan; he coached Little League with his lifelong friend, Dave Naylor, fostering a love for the game among young players.
The Theater Maestro
High School and College Years
After graduating from Concord High School in 1980, where he actively participated in the drama club and baseball, Mike continued his passion for theater at St. Anselm College. His journey in drama reached new heights when he accepted the position of drama coach at Concord High School in 1986.
SandCastle Productions
In 1990, Mike, alongside his close friend Jim Speigel, founded SandCastle Productions, a venture that brought various dramas, comedies, and musicals to the Concord community for a decade. Mike’s dual talents as a performer and director created lasting memories and friendships.
Family and Legacy
Mike’s role as a father to his son, Colin Michael, was central to his life. Their close bond, shared love for travel, and appreciation for their Irish heritage were evident in their many adventures together. His commitment to family extended to his siblings, nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends. For over 40 years, Mike was a familiar face in downtown Concord, excelling as a salesman at various retail establishments. His most recent role at Speer’s Fine Jewelry on Main Street reflected his kind and approachable nature.
