It is with profound sadness that we share the news of our dear team member, Honey / Cat McCarthy’s illness. Honey has been battling stage 4 bone cancer and TB and is currently hospitalized in Port Alberni. Despite the tremendous efforts of medical professionals, it has become evident that she will not be leaving the hospital.
Honey’s journey with illness has been marked by resilience, strength, and unwavering courage. Throughout her struggle, she has faced each challenge with grace and determination, inspiring all who know her with her indomitable spirit.
Homecoming and Family Support
On February 8th, Honey was admitted to RJH, and yesterday she was transferred home to be close to her family, her lands, and her people. The decision to bring her home reflects the deep love and support of her family, who stand by her side during this difficult time. Despite the gravity of her condition, there are signs of hope and improvement.
As of Wednesday morning, Honey is sleeping but wakes up intermittently. She was alert last night, engaging in conversations with those around her. The energy surrounding her is notably brighter, offering a glimmer of optimism amidst the challenges she faces.
