 On February 23, 2024, the world bid farewell to a beloved member of the Mt. Eden community. Dollie Mae Bentley, 88, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Her life, marked by dedication, faith, and kindness, leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished for generations to come.

Dollie Mae Bentley lived a life defined by her commitment to others. As a retired housekeeper, she devoted herself to ensuring the comfort and well-being of those around her. Her work ethic was matched only by her unwavering compassion, earning her the respect and admiration of all who knew her.

A Woman of Faith

Dollie Mae’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where her presence was felt not only in the pews but in the hearts of her fellow parishioners. Family was at the heart of everything Dollie Mae did. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudell and Ona Shields, her husband, Haskell Bentley, and her daughter, Paula Heady, as well as two brothers, Jesse and G.C. Shields. However, her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Dollie Mae is survived by three sons, James, Wayne, and Jerry Bentley, and two daughters, Glenna Allen and Alice Valentine. She is also survived by three sisters, Robin Nation, Donna Shields, and Carolyn Shields. The breadth of her family tree is a testament to the love and devotion she poured into her relationships, leaving behind a rich tapestry of memories and shared experiences.

A Farewell to Remember

Funeral services to honor Dollie Mae’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home, followed by burial in Highland Memory Gardens. Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects starting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday until the time of the service. Her legacy of love, kindness, and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she may be gone, her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched, a shining beacon of hope and compassion in a world that sorely needs it.
